World Building | Blue Sky Stage

The planet Eytera has an abundance of resources. The environment can be described as primeval. The gravity isn’t as heavy as earth’s but the ground doesn’t allow heavy structures to be built due to loose soil and constant erosion from water. Water is in great abundance and is never in short supply. This has caused the local fauna to store large amounts of water and dig their roots deep into the earth for stability. To build any form of solid structure on this planet one must find a solid rock foundation (something that can be somewhat elusive).

Due to the abundance of water, all plants and rocks are quite smooth. The rocks do on occasion get chips nicked off of them due to rocks slides.

The civilization began in the Eosahn star system on the planet Eytera. They have highly advanced technology; they are able to create portals that teleport them to far off systems and planets. Some of their portals can be strong enough to teleport people to different realities. However this is seen as being very dangerous as it is still not fully understood. They have not however developed any sort of space program or fleet as they are highly superstitious of outer space. But aside from that their technology is considered to be millennia ahead of humans.

This high level of technology has allowed the Eyteran to create structures at a molecular level using light. Because of this, their buildings show no trace of tools having been used in the construction (no seams). The process of construction begins by finding a large solid surface, typically rock, and then carving out of it until the structure is complete. The results of this method of construction appear to have an unnatural effect on the materials, as they seem to refract light in a strange way, giving the stone an iridescent quality.

The Eyteran primarily lived in a singular star system, and were content experimenting with their portal technology. One day they tried experimenting to see if their portals could gain access to other dimensions and realities. The experiment was a huge success but it also brought about a terrible calamity. As soon as a connection was established the two realities started bleeding into one another. This brought about the Synth, a species of mechanical beings that, from the Eyteran perspective, are obsessed with order and sterility. Upon their forced removal from their dimension, they arrived in what their version of hell; a place rife with organic life. Conflict broke out immediately and quickly involved into star spanning war. Due to the war with the Synths, the Eyteran lost their homeworld and have been on the run. This has caused them to put a focus upon survival. In the past they would try to develop a planet for civilization by carefully examining its potential and then begin the slow process of colonization. But due to the war, they are haphazardly jumping from planet to planet in the hopes to outrun their pursuers. This has caused them to sacrifice many of their traditions.

. . .

The Eyteran possess a sophisticated culture and this is present within their architecture. But because of the invasion parts of their structures that have been deemed “unnecessary” have been removed as these buildings need to be constructed faster and may not last long. The results of this conflict has caused collateral damage to most all of the Eyteran’s creations; this can be seen defaced architecture and blast marks. This damage is unusual though; what was once an Eyteran sculpture would be transformed into an amalgamation of white, metallic, abstract shapes.

The most pressing need is that of safety and shelter from the Synths. In pursuit of survival, the Eyteran have decentralized their government in an attempt to use guerilla warfare and outlast their invaders. To assist in this endeavor, they’ve developed gateways that allow them to teleport to different places/worlds and streamlined their construction process.

The current form of government is decentralized but led by a council of elders on a more macro level. On a local level, people are led by elected officials that only occasionally answer to the higher council (Think a country like France that has vassals with too much autonomy and power). This has caused many splinter factions to form, all pursuing their own methods of survival, and cultural needs. It was not always like this though. Recent events have caused the macro-government to effectively collapse.

Family and tradition are what lies at the core of the Eyteran. To display these values they use the circle as a symbol of their unity as a people and the strength that their traditional ways bring them. As a result their art and architecture tends to be curvilinear in shape. The portals that they have repurposed into escape routes and supply lines also use the circle motif. This has only further entrenched them within their beliefs.

How are the values enforced? What institutions are in place to enforce this? What does a "conformist" citizen do on a day to day? What's an "innovator" like? What would a "rebel" be like? What are the basic structures of society?

. . .

The circle appears in the Eyteran architecture in various ways: they can be concentric circles, the form of a building, and but are most commonly found as engravings. The architecture doesn’t adhere to a “circles only policy”. Instead buildings are constructed with a focus on curvilinear shape and form.

. . .

The Eyteran have a polytheistic religion that venerates their honored ancestors. Those who perform especially remarkable deeds are elevated to an almost godhood state; it does not matter if they are dead or alive. These people become paragons for their society and are role models for people to strive to act like. In some areas of Eyteran society, they are worshipped. Although they have a polytheistic religion, they do believe there were two creators who brought all of existence into the reality they know today. As a result there are two different religious leaders. Death in this religion is not the end. They believe that a person’s “soul” or “energy” still lingers to watch over their families. In some cases it has been shown that especially strong souls can become visible to mortal eyes and even communicate with the living. They hold these beliefs because of their strong familial ties as a culture. This has made the culture more rigid and slow moving because some of the “souls” of the deceased can linger and provide advice into solving current problems. Usually these “souls” are stuck in the mindset of their lifetime and rarely change.

The Eyteran religion is represented through the use of circles. The paragons are represented as sigils or obelisks. Sigils are used to invoke/summon paragons and are sometimes used as guardians (bridge mechanic).

. . .

The city structure is centrally organized, radiating out from the center (usually a monument to the early days of teleportation technology) in a series of concentric circles. These cities are located near waterfalls, as these areas have easy to find and readily available bedrock that provide a good foundation for buildings. So the cities are usually built with nature rather than against it. This has caused the green space to become a natural part of the city environments. These green spaces are extremely designed and in some cases altered to a high degree.

Transportation in this civilization no longer involves using instantaneous transportation between different planets. But it is used to go from city to city in very rare cases. As this civilization has become quite wary of teleportation technology after there were such disastrous consequences of using it in the past. Other than that there are large communal hovercrafts that are used from transportation throughout the different parts of the city.

As for security, it has become highly advanced due to previous wars and covers a wide range areas. Including the security surveillance of different dimensions and possibilities. When it comes to defending within their own reality however, they use beam technology. The reason being is because the atmosphere is so sensitive that the affects of both endo and exothermic weapons have enhanced affects.

What kind of building types does the civilization have: residential, commercial, institutional, religious, leisure?
What are the reasons for people to go to and from different cities? Each city creates and sustains it's self so why would they even bother going to another city? Trade, monuments, religion?
